Nora Curl has carved a unique niche for herself in the world of antiques, translating her lifelong passion into a lucrative online career. Raised in an environment steeped in antiquity, Curl accompanied her parents on numerous antique shopping trips as a child. Her fascination with historical artifacts only deepened over the years, leading her to pursue advanced studies in connoisseurship of fine and decorative arts at Christie’s postgraduate program.
Curl’s career trajectory is as varied as it is impressive. She has contributed to magazines, worked in gallery spaces, and assisted the renowned artist Nelson Shanks. However, it was in 2012 that she began leveraging her expertise on JustAnswer, conducting online valuations of antiques. An insightful piece of advice from her former boss at Fine Art Connoisseur magazine in 2017 steered her towards focusing on a single niche. This guidance proved pivotal as Curl subsequently made six figures on eBay in 2022 and reached a notable milestone in 2024 by earning up to $8,700 per month through JustAnswer.
Curl’s dedication to her craft sees her working seven days a week, dedicating three to four hours daily to answering questions on JustAnswer, averaging five queries per hour. She quickly began generating income from the platform, but even now, she reflects on missed opportunities, such as the potential earnings from not answering 10 questions that could have netted her over $100.
“You need to find one thing,” advised Curl’s old boss. “One lane that you enjoy and that you’re good at, and that one lane that makes you the most money.”
Curl embraces this philosophy wholeheartedly, attributing her success to a willingness to experiment and learn from failures.
“I think trying a lot of things and making a lot of mistakes and learning lessons is part of how you get to success,” Curl remarked.
Her advice to aspiring online entrepreneurs is straightforward: start with trial and error to discover the most profitable path.
“That one niche that really keeps you going and earns money,” Curl emphasized, is essential for sustained success.
Moreover, Curl believes that true achievement requires more than just identifying a niche; it demands dedication and courage.
One must “have the bravery and the willingness to drop everything else,” Curl asserts, to fully commit to their chosen path.
