Amateur radio training program Ham Radio Prep is offering a free tuition program.
July 17, 2020 —
WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — Ham Radio Prep, one of the nation’s fastest-growing online amateur radio training programs, has created a permanent scholarship program.
During the onset of the coronavirus pandemic earlier this year, there was an influx of Americans who wished to obtain their amateur radio licenses. At the time, Ham Radio Prep stepped up and offered persons impacted by COVID-19 full scholarships for their entry-level Technician and mid-level General class amateur radio courses.
The response to the free scholarships was incredible this past spring, as Ham Radio Prep awarded a total of 81 scholarships with a value of just over $4,000. For many, it was an opportunity to use newfound time while out of work in a constructive way that could benefit others through community service and assistance, especially during emergencies and disasters.
As a result of the popularity of the scholarship program earlier this year, Ham Radio Prep is now offering the free tuition program permanently for those who cannot afford the study program’s cost. An online application process allows potential students to indicate that they need assistance to become a licensed amateur radio operator. Ham Radio Prep believes that no person should be prevented from learning because of financial difficulties.
Upon granting of the scholarship, students can study for their Technician and General licenses on a 100 percent full scholarship basis. After studying, students take the exam online or at a test center with a volunteer examiner coordinator accredited by the Federal Communications Commission.
Ham Radio Prep was established in 2017 to assist people interested in obtaining an FCC-issued amateur radio license. In addition to offering study courses for the FCC Technician and General ham courses, Ham Radio Prep will soon be releasing a study course for the top-level Amateur Extra license course.
