From a medical perspective, Vince believes that whether nomophobia is anxiety-driven, an addiction, or strictly a phobia, the effects of being glued to one’s phone – and the restlessness experienced when not – is pervasive. Having put a substantial amount of time into learning, researching, and performing market analysis on the subject, Vince has observed that nomophobia is not only responsible for affecting the mind but for altering relationships as well.
While the nomophobic person may be physically present at these times, they are not always mentally present, and this affects the lives of everyone around them.
Vince also goes on to state that phone dependency is likely to create problems at the workplace; if people are not able to resist answering calls, texts, or emails when with clients or in meetings, the risk of losing an important contract – or possibly your job – grows substantially. When speaking on some of the side effects of nomophobia, Vince feels that moving between tasks (from work to phone and back to work) becomes difficult and impairs concentration.
This absorption with the social network can add hours to the normal working day, which ultimately leads to stress over time.
“What triggers nomophobia among people is the feeling of not being able to access information or to communicate with others, to losing connectedness, and having to give up on convenience.
