PolicyStreet, an insurance tech startup has won the best startup award at the Seedstars Summit yesterday in Kuala Lumpur.
The event was held at the Innovation Center, co-run by big name venture capitals including MDEC, Cradle, Khazanah, MaGIC, as well as the Fintech Association of Malaysia (FOAM).
Seven other startups also participated the event, including restaurant operations and CRM platform UMAI and online-to-offline consumer gamification platform CheQQme which came in second and third respectively.
The startups pitched to a panel of judges consisting of Hassan Alsagoff from Mountain Partners Malaysia, Mohd Ridzwan Nordin from Kahazanah, Joseph de Leon from Gravitas Prime, Julian Jan from Cradle, Rebecca Kuz from 500 Startups, and Rosie Keller from Seedstars.
Following this, PolicyStreet joins the rank of 75 other regional winners like Singapore’s FinChat and Manilla’s ServeHappyJobs to win up to US$1 million in equity investments.
The global Seedstars Summit will be held in Switzerland next year April and startups will attend a week-long boot camp with international mentors and investors.
PolicyStreet is a startup curating insurance policies for millennials to get insurance without having to hear sales pitch from insurance agents.
It sells a wide range of insurances products for common consumer needs such as travel, dental and personal accidents as well as niche ones such as musical instruments, photography gear, and pets.
On another note, PolicyStreet has recently partnered with UForLife, a major online term life provider by Tokio Marine Life and Handover Re, to offer term life insurances.
