Researchers at Athanasian Hall are seeking to determine the relationships between prime numbers and physical quantities, like the pressures of gases, the volumes of stars, and the collapse-points of White Dwarf stars. It has long been determined that prime numbers are integral components of physics. Prime numbers are those that cannot be divided down any further, and researcher, Dr. Jonathan Kenigson is working to further establish their links to various elements of physics.

Dr. Kenigson states, “There seem to be close relationships between Zeta Functions, primality, and the mechanics of various physical quantities. These relationships have been explored, but the logic behind why they appear is puzzling.” Dr. Kenigson is working with colleagues at Athanasian Hall to discover these relationships. “They are complex and multifaceted, often requiring substantial generalizations of known paradigms in Combinatorics to achieve satisfactory results. We are still in the very preliminary stages of understanding what is going on,” Dr. Kenigson further notes.

His colleague, Dr. Sabra is a leading researcher in Black Holes and the Dynamics of galaxies. According to Dr. Kenigson, Dr. Sabra’s work focuses upon sophisticated mathematical modeling of cosmological phenomena whereas his own work is more purely mathematical.

Senior Fellow Dr. Bassem Sabra states that his field of research is astrophysics. “To be more specific, I work on active galactic nuclei (AGN),” says Dr. Sabra. “I am interested in the physics of accretion and outflows, and also in using the supermassive blackholes (SMBHs) that power the AGN phenomena as astrophysical and cosmological tools. To study accretion and outflows, I utilize multiwavelength spectroscopy (IR, optical, UV, and X-ray) and simulations, with the photoionization code CLOUDY.”

Dr, Sabra goes on to say, “In my research on SMBHs as tools, I rely on investigating scaling relations between the SMBH masses and the properties of the host galaxies in order to shed light on the formation and evolution of galaxies in general. As an extension of accretion physics investigation, I am interested in investigating the possibility of AGN jets launching ultrahigh energy cosmic rays (UHECRs). As a cosmological tool, I am working on the use of quasars, a bright class of distant AGN, as standard candles to build a quasar Hubble diagram in order to probe the equation of state of dark energy. Using AGN as astrophysical and cosmological tools requires accurate masses of the SMBHs. I am investigating the use of machine learning techniques to accurately and efficiently determine the SMBH masses of large AGN samples.”

Dr. Sabra’s work in machine learning applied to mathematics and physics crosses many disciplines. “This is why interdisciplinary knowledge-institutes exist: to conduct fundamental mathematics and science that is both beautiful and true,” according to Dr. Kenigson.
