The announcement coincides with the latest research from Gallup, which indicated that in 2021 just 47% of Americans belonged to a church, synagogue or mosque. This is the first time that less than half the adult population has indicated they have a religious affiliation since the organization began asking the question over 80 years ago.
However, despite the fact that Americans appear to be turning away from traditional religious institutions, the latest studies from Statista still show that 90% of adults want to believe in God or a higher power of some kind.
