United States – March 14, 2022 —
On February 14, 2022, a research article entitled “Mesenchymal stem cells transfer mitochondria to allogeneic Tregs in an HLA-dependent manner improving their immunosuppressive activity” was published in Nature Communications, demonstrating how direct and indirect contact with allogenic MSCs boosts Tregs’ ability to accumulate immunosuppressive adenosine and suppress conventional T cell proliferation. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are stromal cells that have self-renewal and multilineage differentiation abilities, which are critically practical for experimental and clinical applications.
In the first season of 2022, Creative Biolabs updated its solutions to support MSC study, covering MSC characterization, differentiation, expansion, and isolation.
Mesenchymal stem cell characterization
Using a variety of techniques, Creative Biolabs can provide phenotypic, genomic, and functional analyses of the MSC population of interest, specifically evaluating mesenchymal stem cell immunomodulation, immunophenotype, tri-lineage differentiation potential, short tandem repeat (STR), and karyotype properties.
Mesenchymal stem cell differentiation
Creative Biolabs provides customized services for inducing MSCs into osteogenic, adipogenic, muscular, and chondrogenic lineages in vitro.
* Adipogenesis: both white and brown adipocyte induction allowed
* Osteogenesis: selective and temporally specific growth factors (BMP-2 and VEGF) embedded protocols
* Chondrogenic differentiation
Mesenchymal stem cell isolation & mesenchymal stem cell expansion
Diverse protocols are applied for the isolation of MSCs at Creative Biolabs, according to the complexity degree of the results required by clients, namely using adherence properties for simple isolation, extracting mononuclear cells from bone marrow for a higher yield, and immunoisolation and immunodepletion techniques combined with fluorescence-activated cell sorting or magnetic beads for MSCs with improved purity.
In regards to the importance of stem therapy research, MSCs are usually asked for in bulk, and Creative Biolabs improved its ability in MSC expansion thereby, mainly through improving the culture media.
In addition to MSC, Creative Biolabs still handles projects for induced pluripotent stem cells and gene editing, meanwhile providing cell therapy development services in corresponding sectors.
“Our capabilities improved,” according to a scientist, “extending from basic research to stem cell therapy development, all the way to disease model establishment.”
Encouraging progress has been made in iPSC technology in the past few years, bringing possibilities for cell therapy and regenerative medicine. Despite the obstacles facing the cell and gene therapy, Creative Biolabs’ scientists spare no effort to help researchers solve those problems with first-class technology support.
